I really wanted to visit this country for some time now and I would like to get some advice on what is the best season for going there? I mean I want to get it all from this trip and anything Kenya has to offer.
I heard that June- October is the best time for visiting it because of the spectacular wildebeest migration. Is that true?
But what about the beaches? Is this time of the year ok for swimming?
I would also like to get some tips on national food, and what would local people recommend eating?
Thanks a lot!

yap its true coz June-october is the right tym.
Its also nice for the beach but the weather is a little cold but not compared to winter in European countries.
There are many African dishes that you can chooce from but if you do not find one that satisfies you still there are other european, chinese, or indian foods that will still water your mouth.
Looking forward for your visit.
You can climb the mount Kenya, visit the Lakes that has hot springs and see the wonderful Flamingos on Lake Nakuru.
See you soon. |

Kenya is a very beautiful country - and there is a sense of deep culture in the surroundings and The people are very friendly.
About the weather, its great throughout the year, so that means you can swim anyday. However, the person who told u the best weather is in june-oct wasnt right since sometimes it gets very cold and misty around july - august.
At the moment, we have been enjoying good weather since January, it has rained a few times but most of the times, the sky is blue. I would encourage you to visit around January - May, or September - December. you should visit Mombasa. There are many good hotels near sandy beaches, Mombasa is the place where many tourist visit. when you are still touring kenya, you should also visit Nairobi, the Capital city where you will get to see a variety of wild animals that you only get to see in movies. This is a great place and you will love the traditional foods.
I hope i have answered most of your questions
All the best |

The precise timing of the Wildebeest Migration changes annually and it is a very unpredictable and spontaneous natural event. The calving season takes place in the Serengeti between the months of January and mid-March before the Wildebeest Migration begins heading towards the western Serengeti in June. The best time to see the migration is usually between June and August when the wildebeest congregate and prepare to cross the famous Grumeti River. There are a few excellent camps in this area where you can stay to witness this natural phenomenon. If you are in the Masai Mara you can expect the wildebeest to make their arrival as early as July, but they generally arrive between August and September and remain in the Mara between October and November. Between December and January the wildebeest gradually begin their migration back towards the Serengeti. As for the beaches, well we have plenty of fine beaches and beach hotels along both the north and south coast of Kenya. The best time to visit our coast is between August and March of the following year as this is the sunny season. This is in contrast with the wildebeast migration season which falls within the rainy season. However, I suggest that you choose a period within which you can factor in both seasons. As for the African dishes and cultural aspects of Kenya, these are available in almost all our hotels, lodges, camps etc. See your travel agent for more details. I hope this information will be of assistance to you. Welcome to our beautiful country. |

Kenya is wonderful throughout the year. we do not have extreme weather seasons. Anytime is tea time in Kenya. Nairobi is a wonderful city. The people are nice and warmly. June-October is always the favourite season for visitors because of the wildlife migration at the Maasai Mara. We also have a national park right in the middle of Nairobi City, can you imagine that? The beaches are the best in Africa, sorounded by very good and modern hotels by the seaside. Let me say something about our foods. You can literally get any food you want in Kenya. Our favourite is nyama choma, that is, roast goat meat, which is tender and soft. We have traditional chicken. You will lick your fingers if you taste that. Last but not least, for a man, our girls are the best and if you are a girl our boys are the best. Anyway you are welcome. Peter. |

Hi Adel,
Icould very much be happy to hear that you wish to come to Kenya for a visit.Let me first say welcome, then it's pleasure to know you through Camila who told me about this visit.
Surely the June to October is the best time coz of the wildbeast migration. and there are many birds during this season. Also the environment is friendly since there are not much rains. Now about the beaches these are always OK for swimming and are qiute interesting.
Now about the national food I can say Ugali(cooked maizeflour with water) and vegetables like Sukumawiki and cabbage. At times rice can be grouped as national food severd with meat or beans or peas. For the local people their main food is Ugali and vegetables, Meat, and fruits. Some of the places to visit can be The Mara reserves, mombasa, Likoni, malindi, Lake Nakuru national park and Tsavo national Park.otherwise thanks and welcome to kenya, you can use my eail for more questions that is: "costoo2006@yahoo.com" |

BEST TIME TO VISIT KENYA:
The best time to go is traditionally July - February. The classic safari from July to September, as this is when the Mara provides one of nature's most dramatic spectacles, the annual migration of over a million wildebeest and zebras, teeming from the south to cross the Mara river into the Masai Mara National Reserve. Raining season is from March to May, which may affect your Safari, as some roads may not be accessible.
Jan and Feb: Hot and dry. Largest concentrations of bird life on the Rift Valley lakes. Game congregates round water sources in parks, making it easier to spot
JULY-SEPT: Cool and dry. Best months generallyl for game viewing, especially Masai Mara
OCT-JAN: Good game viewing, relatively dry. Best time for snorkeling and diving as seas are clearest (esp Nov)
.
MARCH-MAY: Wet. Less tourists, accommodation prices a much cheaper.
Rains generally don’t affect your ability to get around as most roads are good.
LOCAL FOOD AND WINE
Hotel cuisine is good, usually buffet style, offering a wide variety. Most hotels have a specialty. These are very popular and some require table reservations especially on Fridays and weekends. Fish and meat are widely eaten and are of excellent quality. Fresh vegetables & fruits are readily available as well as tasty vegetarian dishes. Plenty of spice & chilies are used in local dishes.Fresh fruit juice is plentiful and available in most restaurants.
ACCOMMODATION:
You will find good quality accommodation within the main routes popular with tourists and business travelers. This includes Nairobi, Mombasa, Lamu, Malindi, Lake Naivasha, Kisumu and the popular game reserves and national parks such as Maasai Mara, Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, Tsavo, Aberdares, Samburu and the Mount Kenya area. In the parks, accommodation varies from 5 star lodges and tented camps at the upper end, to basic camping at the lower end.
Am Mathew Arita aged 23 years, and i look forward to be of any assistance as you plan to visit Kenya.

thank you for your query about kenya, you are most welcome to visit here. kenya has so much to offer [tourist sites], the country is generally warm throughout the year though its best to come from aug-january when the coast is warm[for the beaches] and minimum rainfall. we have so many game parks bur the best known is masai mara for the wild beest migration during the month of oct-nov. we have many traditional african dishes but the best will be nyama choma at the game reserves. you are welcome |

Depending on which part of Kenya you want to visit,i think Kenya is a beautiful country all round, the best time for swimming is actually from October all the way to May if u r to visit mombasa which hosts the sandy beaches, during this time of the year its extremly hot so thats the best time to visit mombasa for a swim,as for the wildbeast its btwn june - October thats when the migration takes place, there many other things to see like the historic sites in mombasa, lamu, gede. The traditional food n cultures will all depend on the town that u r visiting as the tradions n cultures vary from one tribe to the other but coastal is good so i would suggest mombasa which will give u a full package of sandy beaches, hot sun, local culture n food, animal parks, crocodile parks, elephant sancuaries etc.
i hope this will give u a heads up
thanks and Regards

OK,Adel i encountered a problem with this link.Anyway the best time to visit kenya is Jan-may then skip july Aug-dec this time of the year is usuually hot and best time to go swimming in beaches in Mombasa, Malindi.
on the contrary the best time to swim is Aug-oct when the weather is hot.
Most kenyans eat their traditional fod but in big restaurants and hotels in beaches prepare a variety of foods which are quite affordable.Vegetables, fruits are also available.Meat is also available, both white and red meat.
Apart from beaches there so many other places that you can visit, this include national parks,Game reserves like Tsavo,Meru,Lewa maasai mara,Amboseli,Nairobi,Lake Nakuru,L.naivasha,L.Bogoria,Masinga dam and Mt.Kenya region.
Accomodation is readily available in most of this national parks like in Tsavo we have Kilaguni lodge,in Mombasa we got have so mamy hotels, in Masinga there is also enough accomodation which is affordable.
Am Mary Maingi and am greateful that you choose to visit my country.I wish all the best as you prepare to visit Kenya.you are much welcomed.for further information contact me at maingimary@yahoo.com or +254728514068. |
